Handy tool, but not essential |

I got this pin spanner to use on the cone ring on a Shimano freewheel. As it turned out, and as several of the how-to videos I watched had shown, the spanner doesn't provide enough torque to break the ring free. I had to use a punch and hammer. But it is handy for pulling the ring out, putting it back in, and tightening it. The pins, combined with the spring resistance when you squeeze the tool, hold the ring securely so you can place it cleanly back on the threads.
